The MHIS Story
In 2016 Mike Lovelady was looking for something to do upon retirement. He had worked at the University of Houston for 23 years as an information technology manager supporting the HR/Payroll software application. Home inspections kept coming to mind. His oldest son, Jeremy Lovelady, was also looking for a career change.
A Family Business Is Born
One day, without knowing what Mike had been thinking, Jeremy asked Mike "Are you interested in starting a home inspection business?" It was a match made in heaven. As a home inspector, Jeremy has fantastic sales and technical skills. He is very entrepreneurial and always looking for new opportunities to grow the business. Mike has very strong administrative skills from his years at UH and is interested in leadership and employee development.
Magnolia Home Inspection Services became an LLC in 2016.
- 2017 was our first full year of doing inspections. We did 85 inspections and had $49,518 gross sales.
- In 2018, our numbers improved to 253 inspections and $123,216 in gross sales.
- In 2019, we added our first employees. Jackie Arcos came on as a client coordinator to book and schedule home inspections. We hired Chris Nowak as a second home inspector. He had worked for one year doing home inspections in Dallas and wanted to move to north Houston to be closer to family. In 2019, we performed 591 inspections and grossed $313,449.
- In 2020 we are on track to do over 980 inspections and gross $540,000.
More Growth & New Division
In 2020 we started a new division called MHIS Pest Control, which operated under Magnolia Home Inspection Services. In July 2020, we moved Chris to head up this new venture and hired Joseph Steemer as a sales rep. On the home inspection side, we hired one full-time and one part-time home inspector. Jeremy is currently working as a home inspector but plans to move to a managerial role in 2021.
Future Plans
In 2021, the MHIS Pest Control Services will be split into a separate LLC. We have plans for strong growth for both companies and plan to add a third business in 2021.
